Recording takes time and practice. There are lots of different methods and tonnes of equipment. Everybody has their own preference. I recommend Audacity for beginners because it is free and also very good.
To use Audacity first of all download and install it. If you are not using your own computer please ask if it is ok to do so.... I don’t want to be moaned at by parents!

You can find Audacity at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

The website contains all the information you need including tutorials, help forum and a wikki. Audacity will allow you to multi track. This means you can build a song in layers playing them one at a time. Once you have finished you can export in wav or MP3 (for MP3 you need an extra free download LAME MP3 encoder). This is really a great tool and I will be posting some tutorial films in the near future.
